Cape Trib Farmstay

If you are seeking a unique, comfortable and memorable place to stay during your holiday, Cape Tribulation Farmstay would be a good choice. The word "farmstay" does not usually conjure up images of balmy tropical weather, lush vegetation, exotic fruits, strange wildlife and beautiful beaches, but those are an accurate description of a typical stay here. This tropical fruit orchard is set in a lush valley, ringed by rainforest –clad mountains. © Cape Trib Farmstay The beautiful beaches of Cape Tribulation are within walking distance.

Set amongst this mixed tropical fruit orchard are four comfortable small cabins, outfitted to sleep couples or small families. Solar panels power each cabin, and each has a shaded verandah where you can sit and enjoy the peaceful tropical setting. The main farmhouse has a laundry, kitchen and lounge that guests share.

The orchard is situated a 10-minute stroll from Cape Tribulation Village, where there are a couple of cafes and a small market. A network of trails on the property leads into the rainforest that surrounds the orchard. Most of the surrounding land, even part of the farm, is a declared world heritage area to protect its unique biological heritage. A variety of one-day activities, from diving on the Great Barrier Reef, sea kayaking, horseback riding are also available here.

The hosts, Colin and Dawn Gray, are friendly and down to earth, and make the time to interact with their guests. Included in the farm stay are a tropical fruit tasting, and a guided night walk through the orchard and nearby tropical rainforest, spotlighting the local wildlife. Colin and Dawn started this tropical fruit orchard in 1981, starting from scratch with an abandoned pasture, four small children, and a lot of imagination and energy. They now have 10 hectares of over 100 species of specialty tropical fruits, including durian, mangosteen and rambutan.

If you value experience over luxury, staying here would make for a great part of your holiday in tropical Australia. © Cape Trib Farmstay
