The Trip
This one-day trip takes you through the Atherton Tablelands, an area of lush tropical rainforest and farmland in the mountains above Cairns. The area is filled with waterfalls, huge rainforest trees, beautiful volcanic lakes, and scenic rural vistas. Your guide/owner Dave knows the roads by heart, and utilizes the less traveled and more scenic back roads. A vehicle is used to transport bikes, gear, and tired riders.
The day we went most of the riding was downhill, with the vehicle transporting riders between the stretches of riding. The lunch was both delicious and abundant, with lots of seafood, barbecue, and fresh locally grown tropical produce. All the riders have the chance to cool off swimming in some of the lakes and waterfalls along the way.
The tour is not excessively strenuous, anyone that is somewhat active will be able to ride and enjoy a great day. It is a great way of actively exploring this beautiful region.

The Company
Bandicoot Bicycle Tours is a locally owned and operated company. Dave Bice, the owner, both runs the company and leads the tours with the help of a capable offsider. We have had the opportunity to both meet with Dave and ride on his tour. We were impressed by how fun the trip was, how good the food was, and how much effort Dave puts into the being a great host and guide. Both Dave and his assistant are quite knowledgeable and are able to point out and explain the significance of the sites and wildlife that you see. The business has been in operation for six years. (In case you didn’t know a bandicoot is a small inquisitive marsupial found throughout Australia!)
