Departure Information Departure is from your lodging, Cairns at 8:00 AM every day, return time 5:00 PM. The Trip Solo might not be the right word for this exciting experience. While the word "solo" implies that it’s "you against the world", and while you do pull the ripcord and guide your chute to its landing, you actually are not alone up there. This trip provides a 2-day sky diving experience. The first day you learn theory and instructions according to the Australian Parachute Foundation standards. The second day, you jump. The jump is from 12,000 feet, allowing for 45 seconds of free fall, followed by 5-6 minutes of gliding the steerable chute into the landing zone. Skydivers in this program jump with two instructors who are guides. An additional safety margin is the automatic back-up parachute deployment computer, which deploys the reserve chute in the event of an emergency. Minimum age for this activity is 14 years. In this two-day section you are completing Stage 1 of the nine stages needed to gain your Australian Parahcute Associatin license. They have provided safe experiences for over 40,000 jumpers. The company operates an office downtown, and has established their own training and “post-jump recovery” drop zone facility in the countryside South of Cairns. Their drop zone is the largest in the area and makes an easy target. Skydive Cairns offers a full range of skydiving options, from tandem skydives with instructors, to courses for an international certification.
