The Trip This trip combines two of the most popular activities (after seeing the Great Barrier Reef) in Cairns, to make a seamless scenic one-day trip into the Rain forest covered mountain behind Cairns. The first half of the trip is a Skyrail gondola trip to the mountain village of Kuranda. Skyrail is the longest gondola trip in the world, taking you up an over the tropical rain forests between Cairns and Kuranda. This trip takes from 40-90 minutes, depending on how much time you spend at the three intermediary stops, where you have the chance to get off the gondola and explore the rainforest on short interpretive walks and displays. Once you arrive in Kuranda you will have time to explore this small mountain town. It’s filled with shops, cafes, and craft and art markets. Finally, your trip back to Cairns is via the Kuranda Scenic Railway. This leisurely 90-minute trip winds through Barron Gorge, and provides great views of the gorge, numerous waterfalls, and tropical scenery as you wind your way down the range, then views of the scenic rural countryside that surrounds Cairns.
