The Trip
A thrill, a rush, a scream, and a challenge are what Bungee Jumping with AJ Hackett is all about. While it’s not for everyone, we don’t know of anyone who wasn’t totally stoked they took the plunge.
The setting for this hair-raising activity is in a most serene and beautiful location. AJ Hackett has erected a set of 160-foot towers over a pool in a shady, forested glen north of Cairns. Under other circumstances you might seek this spot out for thoughtful contemplation, but the adrenalin-filled screams of jumpers hurtling off the tower sets a different tone. If you don’t want to jump, you can people watch from a comfortable shady spot and enjoy the refreshments for sale. We like going out there just to watch the action.
For those of you unfamiliar with the art and science of Bungee Jumping, here’s a brief description; Strapped into a set of special elastic parachute cords at the ankles, the jumper simply jumps off the edge of a platform and hurls his or her body down toward a pool of water. At the maximum stretch point of the bungee cord, which is conveniently set far enough from the ground so there is no danger of making contact, the jumper’s body smoothly changes direction and begins an upward trajectory until gravity reverses it. This up and down "boinging" repeats itself a couple of times until the jumper comes to rest beside the pool. By this time he or she is generally sporting a crazed and maniacal grin.
If this isn’t enough, AJ Hackett’s offers the Minjin Swing. Imagine a 160 foot tall swing, where you are strapped into the swing in a flying Superman pose, then raised to a great height, and let go so that you swing back and forth along a giant arc. This is another kind of thrill.
A state-of-the-art photo and video system is available and can provide the proof of your good judgement and adventurous nature to your grandparents or grandchildren.
