The Trip

A sport raft is a 2-person raft, constructed like a larger river raft, but narrower, with the two paddlers sitting one behind the other, like in a canoe. You and your rafting partner use two-bladed kayak paddles to power and steer the raft through rapids.

On this trip the guides are not in your boat, prior to descending down the river they will instruct you and your raft-mate on the basic paddling and navigation skills you will need to continue downriver. © Foaming Fury (All the sport rafts will stay close to each other, so that they can carefully supervised by the guides.)

We like the fact that this trip is a hands-on, small group experience, a fringe benefit of the desire of the company to keep everyone under close supervision. The adventure starts with a short and very scenic hike through the rainforest, where you will help carry the gear you will use on the river through the shady jungle.

The rapids are rated Grades III and IV, which are a challenge that matches the newly acquired skills of persons interested in navigating their own raft for the first time. The river itself is beautiful, and lies in rural countryside about 50 minutes drive south of Cairns. A BBQ lunch and beautiful swimming hole on the river rounds out a great day spent outside. The minimum age for this trip is 13, and no prior experience is necessary. This trip has earned an ecotourism accreditation for its commitment to sustainable ecotourism.
