We really like the personal nature of this guided small-group wildlife tour, as well as the very private and unique area that it visits. You'll share this experience with no more than 10 other persons, and many times just two or three people.
On this tour you'll be visiting the Atherton Tablelands, a high altitude plateau that sits behind Cairns.
This area features a range of habitats including lush tropical rainforest and volcanic crater lakes.
On the daylight portion of this trip you’ll visit Lake Barrine, one of the volcanic lakes in the region.. During the day you might spot the Musky Rat Kangaroo, Boyd's Forest Dragon, and a diverse selection of rainforest birds, butterflies and fying foxes. At dusk the group ventures to a private viewing area by the river to search for Platypus, one of the most unique mammals on earth. Along the way you'll enjoy tea/snacks out in the rainforest as well.
After dinner at a local country restaurant, your night time spotlighting adventure begins. You will walk under the night stars, and into the World Heritage Rainforest, we may be lucky enough to spot Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo, Lemuroid, Green and Herbert River Ringtail Possums, gliders, frogs, owls and more (most are endemic to the region). Every night is full of discoveries.
Keep in mind that this trip has a two person minimum. Solo travelers interested in this trip should contact us so that we can find a date where you can join a trip with other persons.
Children 4-12 are welcome on this trip, but keep in mind that wildlife watching requires patience and quiet, so not all children will be well-matched for this trip.
