2-Day PADI Open Water Referral dive course., Independence 1
This is probably the nicest 2-day referral dive course you could do anywhere on this Great Barrier Reef. The course sizes are kept small, typically 1-4 persons, the boat used to go to the reef takes just 12 guests, so you are assured a very personal experience.
Prior to starting this course you need to have completed both the pool and classroom portions of the PADI open water dive course. (Most folks do this over a couple of weekends at home before coming to Port Douglas, we can help you with the details.)
This is a very popular course, and combined with the very small group size this course typically sells out well in advance, so please plan ahead and contact us early on to set up your start date.
This course includes dives aboard Independence 1, a 40 foot Mono Hull with a maximum of 4 student divers. The dive trip included in the course is for 2 days (note: return to town overnight), and allows 5 dives.
The Independence 1 stands in a unique position in the Northern Queensland dive boat fleet. This boat is small enough so that they only take 12 guests on each trip, allowing for a very intimate small group experience, without the crowds and lines you find on the larger boats.
At the same time at 16 metres (50 feet) in length this boat is large enough and powerful enough to make for a quick and stable trip out the reef, with all the amenities that youf ind on the larger boats. We like the fact that the boat has both an enclosed/airconditined cabin space and a shady open air deck, most boats this size do not have both sorts of spaces on board.
