You visit one of the best dive areas on the entire Great Barrier Reef on this trip. The Ribbon Reefs, being out of range for one-day dive boats, are less frequently visited. The visibility is usually amazing. Only a few boats offer trips that combine a visit to this outstanding dive area, and the chance to interact with Dwarf Minke Whales; Divers Den is the choice of divers and snorkelers on a budget.
This company and it's staff are very experienced with these unique animals, and has worked along side CRC Research and James Cook University in their Dwarf Minke Whale research programs since mid 1995.
From the years of researching these whales they have discovered favored sites along the Ribbon Reef to encounter the whales. While Taka usually tries to stick to the usual itinerary during the whale season, customers are given the option to stay in the water with the whales and miss a dive.
Due to unpredictable encounters with the whales, itineraries are subject to change during this season. For the protection of these whales, scuba diving is prohibited with the whales. Snorkeling from a floating line in the water is the safest and most non-intrusive way to interact with and these whales.
This is an ideal trip for snorkelers as well as scuba divers, oddly enough, the whales are very attracted to snorkelers at the surface, but a little timid around scuba divers.

OceanQuest is an extremely comfortable liveaboard. She’s twin-hulled catarmaran, with three decks, giving everyone lots of space, both in the cabins and in common areas, such as the lounge, dining area, dive deck and sun decks.
The boat's just been through a major refitting, so everything is nice and shiny and new. The cabins are both spacious and comfortably outfitted. Each cabin has a private bathroom/shower, TV, bar fridges, even an internal phone system!
There are a mix of double, twin, and four-share cabins to suit any person’s needs, and the boat can sleep up to 48 divers and snorkelers in comfort. At 35 metres (117 ft) in length, the boat makes for a very stable and comfortable night’s sleep.

About Deep Sea Divers Den
Deep Sea Divers Den is one of the oldest, largest, and most experienced dive operations in Cairns. Their dive school is one of the two largest such operations in the world, and this year marks the debut of their newly refurbished facilities, and a new dive boat, the ReefQuest II. Besides running the full range of certification courses in four languages, they also operate three dive boats on a daily basis.
The Divers Den has been in operation since 1975, and the size of their operation allows them to do much of their staff training, boat, and equipment maintenance in house. Someone walked into our office recently who was certified and dove with DSDD in 1982, and while you might barely remember what you were doing in '82, Susan has fond and vivid memories of her dive experience.
