6-night Coral Sea Fly/Dive/Fly trip
Nomad Dive

© Nomad Dive

This trip is aboard Odyssey, an 80 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 16 divers and a Dive Staff of 2. It is for 7 days, 6 nights, and allows 19 dives, plus 5 night dives.

Departure Information
Departure is from Hamilton Island Airstrip, Hamiton Island at 6:30 AM, return time 5:00 PM.
Trips depart 5/17/2008, 5/23/2008, 5/29/2008, 6/4/2008, 6/16/2008, 7/24/2008, 9/4/2008, 9/10/2008 and 9/16/2008.

The Dive

We can’t think of a more amazing and adventurous dive trip that can be head anywhere in Australia, one that provides the most amazing and remote diving, a comfortable boat, and even the adventure of a seaplane flight from the Australian coastline to/from the dive boat, located far out in the coral sea.

This six night dive trip begins with a 90-minute float plane trip from Hamilton Island far out into the Coral Sea to meet the dive boat. © Nomad Dive Once aboard the dive boat you will be exploring the Marion Reef complex for six days. Marion Reef has grown on top of the rim of a large submerged volcano; the volcano’s rim is 30 km in diameter, as is the complexes of reefs, and sand cays that make up the Marion Reef complex.

This remote reef is well off the Australian Contintental shelf, and is rarely visited by divers. Nomad Dive is the only commercial dive boat that visits the area. Due to its isolation the reef is in amazing condition, and the visibility is always amazing. The deep ocean waters that surround the island mean that pelagic fish like big tooth tuna, trevally, and sharks of several species are very common.

During the four and a half days of diving you will make up to 24 dives, including 5 night dives.

The trip culminates with a flight back from the boat to Hamilton Island. (Hamilton Island is easily reached by commercial air flights from Sydney and Brisbane, and resort facilities on the island mean you can fly in a day or two before and stay on the island. We can easily help you make these arrangements.

Please note that the September trips are also being operated as fishing trips, which means that due to the decreased number of divers you will get even more attention from the dedicated dive staff on board.

The Boat

The Odyssey is the largest live aboard dive boat operating on the Southern Great Barrier Reef. An 80-foot twin hull, she has ample space for up to 16 divers, with double, twin-share and quad share cabins.

The boat was custom built in 2006 by the present owner, so it's perfectly suited for extended remote dive trips. A huge fuel capacity, commercial galley, and freshwater making capacity, high tech navigation, and many other features make this boat ideal for extended cruises. There are ample enclosed and open air dining and lounge areas.

Odyssey is outfitted with all the latest electronics, divers will especially appreciate the plasma video, CD player, and Computers for saving digital images onto CD's or other memory media, as well as full satellite communications gear.

The boat is also well-equipped for diving. A stern-width dive deck has a short stairway descent to a water level entry platform. Two dive tenders permit groups do dive at more distant spots from the anchorage. A very quiet compressor keeps the tanks filled and ready to use.

About Nomad Dive © Nomad Dive

Dive Nomad is owned and operated by the Olsen family. The captain on nearly every trip is Damon Olsen, who after spending most of his life developing a passion for fishing, diving and the sea, decided two years ago to build a boat with his father and operate high quality extended live aboard diving and fishing trips on the more remote sections of the Great Barrier Reef, and out into the Coral Sea.

The company’s trips have proven a success, and provide some of the best live aboard diving to be had in the region.
