Departure Information
Departure is from A Finger, Marlin Marina, Cairns at 7:30 AM every day, return time 5:30 PM.
The Dive
The trip visits Pinnacle Reef, which lies close to Green Island, a small, resort island offshore from Cairns. Green Island is well-known for having a greater diversity of colorful reef fish on its reefs, which compensates for the visibility, which is not quite as good as other, further off locations Diving near Green Island also gives guests the chance to take the tender ashore and relax on the beach or they enjoy small resort’s facilities after their first dive and lunch. While over half the guests return to the Ocean Free to make a second dive, many guests spend the afternoon relaxing ashore.
The Ocean Free takes just 35 people out at full capacity. (80% snorkelers, and 20% certified divers and snorkelers taking introductory scuba dives.) The food served is excellent, Ocean Free uses the same caterer as one of the best luxury day boats.
This trip would be a great choice for anyone interested in having fun in a small group setting on a trip that combines sailing, diving or snorkeling, and the opportunity to relax at a beach or in a resort. We have met many people who have taken this trip, and they have always had a great time.
The Boat
The Ocean Free is a 63-foot single-hulled sailboat built in 1988 and refit just last year. There is ample space on deck, and a large sunshade covers the rear deck area. She is outfitted to accommodate both snorkelers and divers. She is best suited for sailing with small groups of guests. Less active or agile reef visitors will most likely be happier on a larger vessel that is easier to move around on, board and exit.

About Ocean Free
Locals Perry Jones and Taryn Agius have owned and operated Ocean Free since 1994. They are actively involved in the daily operations of the vessel. The times we have visited with them, we have been impressed by the efforts they make to be gracious hosts to their guests. Perry and Taryn pay attention to the details and work hard to create trips with what we can best described as "a good spirit".
