This trip is aboard AS 350 Eceuriel, a 35 foot Jet Helicopter with a maximum of 6 divers and a Dive Staff of 6. It is for 1 day, and allows 2 dives.
Departure Information
Departure is from your lodging, Cairns at 7:30 AM every day, return time 3:50 PM.
The Dive
This trip combines a great day out on the Great Barrier Reef with a scenic flight home. This is a full day trip, visiting two different dive sites, which gives scuba divers time to make two dives. Snorkelers will have lots of time to spend in the water, and a semi-submersible boat can get you a close look at the reef without getting wet.
At the end of the day you will meet up with the helicopter on the floating helicopter pad on the reef, and from there it’s an all too quick and very scenic flight back to Cairns.
The Boat
This trip utilizes two great high-tech ways of traveling to and from the reef. Down Under Heli provides the helicopter, using a 6-passenger AS 350 Squirrel, or a 4-passenger Bell Jet Ranger. Both of these helicopters are designed for passenger comfort and viewing, and make the trip out to the reef in less at speeds up to 200km/hr.
Down Under Dive operates the boat used on this trip, the Osprey V. This sleek boat can make the trip as or more quickly than any other dive boat, and provides a comfortable ride for up to 120 divers and snorkelers. It’s an air-conditioned 98-footer, and uses a unique computer-controlled set of hull stabilizers to smooth out the ride.

Down Under Helicopter is a local pilot-owned company founded in 2001. The owners are focused on helping visitors enjoy helicopters as a part of their Great Barrier Reef experience. The company operates using a fleet of three different helicopters, ranging in size up to a very plush 6-passenger AS.350B Eceuriel. They have shown great imagination in developing a wide range of scenic flights, and reef experiences utilizing helicopters to provide quick access to the reef and incredible views of the area.
