Budget One-Day Great Barrier Reef Trip
Down Under Dive

© Down Under Dive

This trip is aboard Supercat, a 78 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 80 divers. It is for 1 day, and allows 3 dives.

Departure Information
Departure is from Marlin Marina, A Finger, Cairns at 8:30 AM every day, return time 5:30 PM.

The Dive

Down Under Dive offers this budget trip, focusing on serving the many snorkelers who want to visit a great location and enjoy the wonders of the reef. The day includes all the gear needed for snorkeling, some great food, tea and coffee. Everyone has the opportunity to try their first introductory scuba dive, an extra cost option.

Hastings Reef is on the outer, eastern edge of the Great Barrier Reef, and offers the great diversity and visibility such locations are known for.

The trip to Hastings Reef takes just 75 minutes, which allows enough reef time for divers to make two dives, and snorkelers to be in the water for 2 1/2 hours. Snorkelers can make one or two introductory scuba dives.

The trip home can be a very sociable time; the bar opens up, and people can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine, a snack, the late afternoon sun. © Down Under Dive

The Boat

Built in 1994 and refitted in 2000, the Supercat is a large catamaran capable of going 22 knots and transporting 80 people. This makes for one of the quickest and easiest rides out to the reef. With two levels of lounge and deck space, there’s plenty of room for gearing up and hanging out. In addition, she boasts two licensed bars, for those who want to tip one back and socialize at the end of a day of diving.
