One-Day Great Barrier Reef Trip Aristocat |
|
This trip is aboard Aristocat, a 97 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 54 divers. It is for 1 day, and allows 3 dives.
Departure Information
Departure is from Marina Mirage, Berth C11, Port Douglas at 9:00 AM every day, return time 4:30 PM.
The Dive
This one-day trip heads out to the Agincourt Reef system, an extensive reef area with some excellent diving and snorkeling. The trip out to the reef takes around 60 minutes.
Once at the reef there will be time to visit three locations, selected from more than 40 private dive moorrings to provide the best diving and snorkeling for the days weather and tides.
Generally the majority of passengers on board are snorkelers.
Aristocat prides itself in providing a high level of supervision and service. First-time snorkelers will appreciate the snorkeling instruction, and guided snorkeling tour.
All scuba diving off the Aristocat is guided, with small groups of divers being taken to the best sections of the reef by knowledgeable guides.
On board the boat there is a morning and afternoon tea and snacks, with a sumptuous tropical buffet lunch in between. No one will go hungry on this boat!
The Boat
The Aristocat is a fine example of the new generation of dive boats we see operating in the area. Fast, sleek, seaworthy and comfortable are the key words that come to mind boarding this boat, which was built in 2006.
The boat is 105 feet long; big enough to be comfortable and stable, but no so big as to bring a crowd out to the reef; the capacity of the boat is 100 divers and snorkelers, although most days there are around 40 people on board. The twin-hull catamaran design creates additional space, so that you have a choice of the air-conditioned salons, the covered deck and open sun deck areas as spaces to relax on the trip out to the reef, and between your adventures into the water.
We liked the steps that descend to a stern-width water level dive platform, which make for easy entries and exits for divers. A fully outfitted galley turns out some great food, and the café set will appreciate the on board espresso machine!
The boat is equipped with the latest low emission engines, and with a top speed of 32 knots, the trip out to the reef is pretty short. New ride stabilizing technology gives this boat a very smooth ride.
