One-day Great Barrier Reef Trip Big Cat Reef Cruises |
|
This trip is aboard Big Cat, a Catamaran with a maximum of 200 divers and a Dive Staff of 2. It is for 1 day, and allows 2 dives.
Departure Information
Departure is from Reef Fleet Terminal, Cairns Marina, Cairns at 8:30 AM every day, return time 5:00 PM.
The Dive
Green Island is a great place for a visit by a group of people with mixed interests, or for those who do not wish to spend the day aboard a boat. Green Island is a vegetated sand cay, with beaches, a café, a small museum and of course the reef that surrounds it.
There are also both semi-submersible and glass-bottomed boat tours available. For a family or couple, where someone might not be as interested in spending a lot of time in the water there are lots of options!
A quick 75-minute ride gets you out to the island, and leaves you with 5 1/2 hours to spend as you wish. Snorkeling can be done in the protected waters right off the beach. The Snorkel and dive trips utilize a dive tender out to the edge of the reef fringing the island, where the life is more abundant and diverse.
The Boat
The Big Cat is exaclty that, a big powerful catamaran, ideal for ferrying passengers quickly between Cairns and Green Island. The boat takes about 45 minutes to make the trip, and can take up to 250 passengers. There is a lot of space on this large 130-foot boat, with three separate decks passenger decks you can find your own space in the sun or out of the wind.
