Book This Trip
This trip is aboard OceanQuest, a 117 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 10 divers and a Dive Staff of 1. It is for 2 days, 1 night, and allows 5 dives, plus 1 night dive.
Departure is from PADI ADVOW 2d/1n Eng, Cairns at 7:30 AM every day, return time 4:30 PM.
This PADI Advanced Open Water dive course takes place entirely on board a 2-day/1-night live aboard dive trip, If you already have your PADI Open Water Certification this is the next step in gaining dive skills and knowledge. This certification allows you to dive (with a qualified dive buddy) in a wider variety of conditions and to deeper depths than an open water certification.
Do you speak English? If so you can start your course/dive trip any day of the week.
If English is your second language instruction materials for this course are available in many other languages. Divers Den also runs this course in Japanese starting on Mondays and Thursdays every week, and in Korean starting on Sunday every week.
There are no formal classroom sessions with this PADI course. You will need to read to do is to read the relevant chapters in the PADI Adventures in Diving Manual that’s given you during the course and complete the knowledge reviews at the end of each of the chapters.
For some of these dives you will meet with your instructor for a pre-dive review, do the dive with your dive buddy, then post-dive follow up, for some dives you’ll be guided and/or supervised in the water by your dive instructor.
On this trip you’ll do the five course dives, plus two additional recreational dives.
Are you certified as an open water dive by an organization other than PADI? If so email us and give us the details of your dive course/dive school, in many cases you’d be immediately eligible to take this course.
PADI Standardizes this course across all of their member dive schools, so the content covered, course materials, and teaching methods are nearly the same at all PADI dive schools, including Deep Sea Divers Den.

OceanQuest is an extremely comfortable liveaboard. She’s twin-hulled catarmaran, with three decks, giving everyone lots of space, both in the cabins and in common areas, such as the lounge, dining area, dive deck and sun decks.
The boat's just been through a major refitting, so everything is nice and shiny and new. The cabins are both spacious and comfortably outfitted. Each cabin has a private bathroom/shower, TV, bar fridges, even an internal phone system!
There are a mix of double, twin, and four-share cabins to suit any person’s needs, and the boat can sleep up to 48 divers and snorkelers in comfort. At 35 metres (117 ft) in length, the boat makes for a very stable and comfortable night’s sleep.
For more info about this boat, see the floorplan.

About Deep Sea Divers Den
Deep Sea Divers Den is one of the oldest, largest, and most experienced dive operations in Cairns. Their dive school is one of the two largest such operations in the world, and this year marks the debut of their newly refurbished facilities, and a new dive boat, the ReefQuest II. Besides running the full range of certification courses in four languages, they also operate three dive boats on a daily basis.
The Divers Den has been in operation since 1975, and the size of their operation allows them to do much of their staff training, boat, and equipment maintenance in house. Someone walked into our office recently who was certified and dove with DSDD in 1982, and while you might barely remember what you were doing in '82, Susan has fond and vivid memories of her dive experience.
