This trip is aboard Taka, a 100 foot Mono Hull with a maximum of 30 divers and a Dive Staff of 7. It is for 5 days, 4 nights, and allows 14 dives, plus 2 night dives.
Departure Information
Departure is from Taka Dive Office, 131 Lake St. Cairns, Cairns at 5:00 PM Fridays, return time 3:30 PM.
The Dive
This trip visits two of the most outstanding dive areas in Australia, the Ribbon Reefs and Osprey Reef. You can make up to 16 dives on this trip. Of the few boats that operate out to the Northern Reefs and Coral Sea, this trip has the best price.
The first full day (Day Two) will be spent on the Ribbon Reefs.
 The Ribbon Reefs are not visited by the one-day boats, and are full of life. Cod Hole is the most well known dive here, and is named for the numerous huge potato cod that flock near the divers.
Osprey Reef is a Coral Sea reef lying far outside the Great Barrier Reef. It is a spectacular dive area. Being so far offshore the visibility averages over 100 feet at this rarely visited reef.
Osprey Reef is a great place for big wall diving, drift dives, and seeing large pelagic fish. One dive will be a shark feed, where you will see an assortment of sharks which including Grey whalers, Silvertip, and White Tip Reef Sharks.
Divers also have the opportunity to advance their skills. Five different advanced certification courses are offered on this trip: PADI Advanced Certification, Deep Diver, Naturalist, Multi-level, and Underwater Navigation. Courses must be reserved in advance to assure the proper instructors are on board.
Snorkelers are also catered to on this trip, in fact 2 introductory scuba dives are included in the trip price for snorkelers, and we hope that snorkelers do take advantage of this opportunity.

The Boat
The Taka II is the newest and highest-tech boat operating on the Ribbon Reefs and Coral Sea. Launched in 2004, this boat is custom designed for live aboard diving in the area. The boat is 30 meters long, with room for up to 30 guests, in air-conditioned cabins that range from a honeymoon suite to four-share.
Designed for a comfortable ride and maneuverability in small dive sights, TAKA also has an internet café, providing access to the ‘net from 90% of the dive sites the boat visits, DVD players and in-house movies, and lots of shared space to lounge and mingle. The dive deck is designed for easy access to gear and the water. This intelligently designed boat makes a great live aboard boat!
