3-day, 2-night Great Barrier Reef Sail and Dive Trip, aboard Santa Maria New Horizon Sail and Dive |
|
This trip is aboard Santa Maria, a 65 foot Mono Hull Sailboat with a maximum of 10 divers and a Dive Staff of 2. It is for 3 days, 2 nights, and allows 6 dives, plus 2 night dives.
Departure Information
Departure is from D Finger, Marlin Marina, Cairns at 8:30 AM Mondays and Fridays, return time 5:00 PM.
The Dive
It is no surprise that this trip is one of the "hot tickets" in town, and nearly always sold out well in advance. No other liveaboard trip in this region combines the romance of a sailing trip with a small group experience and great service, all at a very reasonable price. Depending on the conditions, Santa Maria moves between dive sites to visit the beautiful Thetford, Moore, Milln, and Flynn Reefs. This assures you of quality snorkeling and diving experiences, and gives a good sense of the diversity of life on the Great Barrier Reef. If you feel like some "hands on" sailing adventure, the crew are happy for your help on the lines and winches.
The crew are concerned with every comfort of the guests aboard, and appreciate the importance of good food while on their trip. All of the meals are specially prepared (with special diets catered for). Snorkeling gear, morning and afternoon refreshments, limited fishing gear, hot showers and fresh linen are all included.
The Boat
The Santa Maria is a 65-foot wooden sailing ship launched in 1982. She is built of tropical hardwoods, and immaculately maintained, she is a beautiful and photogenic boat, and indeed one of our favorites. Those of you familiar with sailing ships will recognize that she is a gaff-rigged schooner, a throwback to sailing ships of the 1800's, but built even better with the benefit of modern technology and engineering techniques. At 65 feet long and with a beam of 17 feet, there is ample space above and below decks.
The Santa Maria accommodates comfortably 10 guests and 3 crew, in a range of cabin layouts. Being a sailboat, space has been used efficiently and practically.
