3-day PADI Open Water Dive Course
Includes two 1-day Great Barrier Reef trips, Poseidon
This course is conducted for small groups of four or less persons. The first days are pool and classroom instruction, conducted at a conveniently located resort in Port Douglas. You will be making a 1-day trip to the Great Barrier Reef on both days 2 and 3, where you will make your four training dives, become a certified diver, then do an additional dive, your first recreational dive as a PADI open water diver.
We like the idea of taking a dive course in a small group situation like this. While the costs are higher, you do benefit from the higher level of personal attention you will receive. In the Port Douglas area all dive courses are conducted in this manner, if you are on a budget you will want to look into taking your dive course in Cairns, where there are larger schools and where competition for dive students keeps prices down.
This course is shorter than most dive courses, that’s because you’ll need to do an online learning module through PADI. Your online efforts (that typically takes most folks 6-8 hours) will save you a full day on your holiday. This is an extra cost item offered through the PADI website, and we’ll send you all the details when you sign up.
We recently checked on the cost of the online portion of the course, and it was AUD$202, you are not saving money doing the e-learning, but you are saving holiday time.
Because Blue Dive is a small dive school you will want to plan ahead and book your dive course, especially if you are only going to be in the area for a week or less. We can organize a course for you with Blue dive starting nearly any day of the week, but advance notice is needed as they rely on just one or two dive instructors. Contact us as soon as you can and let us get you scheduled to learn to dive!
Depending on your age and general health you may or may not be required to take/pass the Australian dive medical, email us and we can send you details on how to learn if you’ll be required to do the medical.
This course includes dives aboard Poseidon, a Catamaran with a maximum of 4 student divers. The dive trip included in the course is for 4 days (note: return to town overnight), and allows 5 dives.
Blue Dive uses Poseidon Cruises as ahost for your ocean diving, done aboard their dive boat, Poseidon II. The Poseidon II, built in 1997, is a 86-foot power reef catamaran, a boat designed for swift, smooth travel. A custom-built dive vessel, there are both a large enclosed cabin and upper deck area, providing plenty of room for the 48 divers or snorkelers on each trip. A large water-level dive deck at the stern provides easy diver entrance and exits. Perfectly maintained, the Poseidon makes for very comfortable diving.
