This trip is aboard OceanQuest, a 117 foot Catamaran with a maximum of 10 divers and a Dive Staff of 1. It is for 3 days (note: return to town overnight), and allows 5 dives.
Departure is from Your Cairns lodging,(free pickup), Cairns at 7:30 AM Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, return time 4:30 PM.
This course combines 1 day of pool and classroom instruction with two 1-day trips to the Great Barrier Reef, where you will make five dives. Completion of the course earns you a PADI open water diver card.
To be eligible to start this course you must have already completed the PADI online e-learning course within the past year, which you can organize through the PADI website.
The course is taught in English, but there are written materials available in most other languages if English is your second language.
There is a new e-learning course starting on Friday every week. E-learning courses can also be started on other days, subject to availability of instructor
The reef trips are aboard the Reefquest, a large, social, and very comfortable boat. Joining you on the Reefquest will be other divers and snorkelers, but given the size of the dive sites, the ocean will seem your own.
The Deep Sea Divers Den campus is located just outside of the downtown area, within walking distance of a variety of lodgings (transfers to and from lodging anywhere in Cairns are included in the tuition.). The campus includes air-conditioned classrooms, showers, changing areas, and a large training pool, and a fully stocked dive shop.

OceanQuest is an extremely comfortable liveaboard. She’s twin-hulled catarmaran, with three decks, giving everyone lots of space, both in the cabins and in common areas, such as the lounge, dining area, dive deck and sun decks.
The boat's just been through a major refitting, so everything is nice and shiny and new. The cabins are both spacious and comfortably outfitted. Each cabin has a private bathroom/shower, TV, bar fridges, even an internal phone system!
There are a mix of double, twin, and four-share cabins to suit any person’s needs, and the boat can sleep up to 48 divers and snorkelers in comfort. At 35 metres (117 ft) in length, the boat makes for a very stable and comfortable night’s sleep.
For more info about this boat, see the floorplan.

About Deep Sea Divers Den
Deep Sea Divers Den is one of the oldest, largest, and most experienced dive operations in Cairns. Their dive school is one of the two largest such operations in the world, and this year marks the debut of their newly refurbished facilities, and a new dive boat, the ReefQuest II. Besides running the full range of certification courses in four languages, they also operate three dive boats on a daily basis.
The Divers Den has been in operation since 1975, and the size of their operation allows them to do much of their staff training, boat, and equipment maintenance in house. Someone walked into our office recently who was certified and dove with DSDD in 1982, and while you might barely remember what you were doing in '82, Susan has fond and vivid memories of her dive experience.
