Sunshine Boosts Reef Visibility
Could it be that the sun favored us and decided to show its handsome face this week? And boy, didn't the temperature increase! Finally the sodden populace of Cairns was given a chance to warm its hands on the sunís golden rays.
Fish and sea life of all forms have also enjoyed the sunshine immensely this week, with divers on the reef enchanted with the wealth of ocean life activity.
Nifty from Ocean Spirit said that weather conditions are looking good, with only a breeze of 10 knots shifting the sands on Upolo Cay. Visibility was between 6 and 10 metres. Dive Director Brendan onboard Ocean Quest also raved about the sunshine. With visibility averaging around 15 metres on Norman Reef, divers and snorkelers were able to catch a good glimpse of the busy lionfish cruising the sandy ocean floor. There were also sightings of cuttlefish and feeding turtles. Skipper Chris onboard Kalinda quoted 10 to 15 metres visibility at Flynn Reef. An abundance of clear blue water and sunshine kept the smiles thick on the faces of all guests onboard.
We can expect conditions to remain fair this weekend with east-southeasterly winds, although isolated showers have been predicted. Happy diving!
