Reef Report for Tuesday, June 12, 2001
Get wet this weekend!
The winds are easing and the rain is disappearing, with breezes blowing at a mild 15 knots. Fair diving weather ahead! Visibility was up at Paradise Reef this week as divers experienced clear waters; 20 metres visibility! Experienced divers saw a colorful array of blue-lined surgeonfish eight metres below surface.
Introductory divers saw a Honeycombed Moray Eel in a crevasse in the coral wall, along with some shy clown anemone fish.
On Milln Reef, there was 15 metres visibility during the week and loads of fish life. Divers onboard Scubapro were treated to the sighting of two blue-spotted rays and a school of shy hump-headed parrotfish. On board Kalinda, Skipper Russell noted the visibility at Flynn Reef as 12 metres, and that conditions behind the reef were quite comfortable despite the wind. Nudibranchs were being spotted on most dives and open water students saw two particularly large fluorescent yellow nudibranchs dancing off a coral wall for more than five minutes! Their beauty captivated even the most seasoned
Remember to take a warm jacket or jumper on your reef trips this weekend, as after the dive it can get a little cool. Happy diving!
