Full Eclipse of the Sun, November 2012
A Guide for Visitors to Cairns and Port Douglas
In case you have not heard, there will be a full solar eclipse taking place in our region on November 13, 2012. It will be a total solar eclipse, with the moon completely blocking the sun for a few minutes starting at 6:38am local time.
The Cairns to Port Douglas region is one of the few easily accessible areas in the path of the total eclipse, and we are already booking dive trips and lodging for visitors planning to both visit the Great Barrier Reef and witness the eclipse.
We’ve got a great understanding of which dive boats will be in the path of the eclipse on that day, and if you contact us and let us know your dive trip preferences we can get you on the trip that would suit you best.
November is one of our driest months, and is known for having our most consistently excellent dive conditions as well.
If you are planning a day trip to the reef, then we’d recommend that you plan to do it on some other day than the day of the eclipse. If you want to get up on board a live aboard dive boat and start your day with a total eclipse of the sun that’s easily arranged, there are a number of live aboard trips to choose from that depart from Cairns.
